Kappa Search Inc., a Chicago recruiter that specializes in engineering, technology, sales, manufacturing and supply chain recruitment and placement, seeks a mechanical design engineer for the following position:
The Design Engineer is a key member of the engineering team within the company and has responsibility for performing a wide variety of complex duties such as designing, developing and testing all aspects of mechanical components.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design of components and assemblies related to the manufacture of specialty electric motors.
• Creates new designs and prototype development for new applications to meet needs of the customer, as well as product improvement and cost reduction activities
• Performs appropriate tests for specifications and reliability
• Serves as the technical leader of the product and point person for all issues
• Analyzes defective motors, identifies problem and resolution for correction
• Contacts outside vendors and other sources to secure price information and general engineering data
• Performs heavy interface with customers with regards to new designs and problem solving

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• 4-6 years experience with E/M product development and manufacturing process development is desired
• Software experience (SolidWorks, Pro-E)
• Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience is desired
