Medical care companying opening manufacturing facility in Tennessee

Fresenius Medical Care will be opening a new manufacturing facility in 2016.

Fresenius Medical Care will be building it's new East Coast manufacturing facility in Knoxville, Tenn. The estimated $140 million facility will be responsible for producing dialysis products that will then be distributed to several of Fresenius Medical Care clinics and distribution centers located in the eastern section of the U.S.

Troy McGhee, Fresenius Medical Care North America vice president of manufacturing, said in a statement Tennessee is a prime spot to open up shop.

"In Knoxville, we've found a home with an excellent workforce pool, a facility that will work well for our purposes, and a location that will enable us to serve our customers in the eastern half of the U.S. more efficiently," McGhee said. "We are additionally drawn to the area's outstanding business climate, and are looking forward to developing and expanding our presence here in the coming years."

Fresenius will start moving production to the Knoxville area in September, but the facility will not begin operations until 2016. The German-based company is waiting on approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that the facility meets regulation standards. Once open, the facility will employ more than 665 people over the next several years from the surrounding Knox County. Trey Coleman, Knox County Industrial Development Board chair, said the new facility will help boost the local economy.

"The Knox County Industrial Development Board is thrilled to have been part of the recruitment of such an outstanding company to Knox County, Tennessee," Coleman said. "With the number of new jobs and capital investment being reported, Fresenius Medical Care will have a very positive long-term economic impact on our community, which made it easy to support local tax incentives for this project."

Manufacturers who are looking to hire experienced workers to help them meet demands of the industry can enlist the services of manufacturing recruiters to aid them in their search.
