Millennials and women play role in supply chain and procurement industry

Millennial generation is slated to play role in supply chain and procurement industry.

Millennials are projected to have a pivotal role in the future of the supply chain and procurement industry. An estimated 63 percent of companies in this industry will increase hiring in 2014, according to Procurement Leaders.

Among the hires the supply chain and industry makes, junior staff will be a source for the industry, noted the source. However, the supply chain industry is shifting in others ways as well. According to Fortune, many women study supply chain courses in a institution of higher education despite women representing 5 percent of top positions in the industry – a fact that some want to see change.

"This field has transformed. It is a critical role in the C-suite of any business," said Beth Ford, executive vice president and chief supply chain and operations officer at Land O'Lakes, according to the source. "The representation of women in this area is not where it needs to be. At the same time, it could be viewed as tremendously exciting. The opportunities are there for women."

Chicago recruiters have many options when surveying the current and future state of the supply chain and procurement industry.
